The Wild Horses of Sable Island

My photographs from my journey to the remote and wild Sable Island, NS will be exhibited at Gallery 1313.

As a young woman caught in the vibrancy and chaos of urban life, the chance to step into the untouched felt rare and precious. My journey to Sable Island—a remote, crescent-shaped sandbar adrift in the Atlantic with nothing but wild horses—was more than an escape; it was an awakening. Amid dunes, whispering grasses, and salt air, I shed the weight of modern distractions. Time slowed, and the island’s wildness seeped into me. The untamed horses became the heart of this experience. Their windswept manes, powerful strides, and steady gaze embodied resilience, freedom, and grace. Through my lens, I sought to capture their dialogue with the shifting sands, swirling fog, and relentless waves—a quiet choreography of survival and independence. This work reflects both the spirit of Sable Island and the transformation it sparked in me. These photographs are my love letter to a place where nature reigns and wild horses roam free. I invite viewers to step into this world, to feel the breeze, hear the ocean’s roar, and glimpse the unbroken spirit of Sable Island through the eyes of its most iconic inhabitants.
